BLOG TOUR [Author Interview + GIVEAWAYS!] Daughter of Isis (Descendants of Isis, #1) by Kelsey Ketch

Daughter of Isis (Descendants of Isis, #1)
by Kelsey Ketch
Release Date: 10/26/13

Summary from Goodreads:
“Her mouth parted slightly, waiting for Seth to breathe life into her own body, just like in the story. She wanted him to awaken her senses.”

Their worlds collide in California’s high desert.

The last thing Natara “Natti” Stone wants to do is to start anew at Setemple High School. She wished she had never left London. Yet the brutal murder of her maternal grandmother has made her life very complicated. The only clue related to her murder is an ancient, encrypted necklace Natti discovered after her grandmother’s death. And if trying to adjust to American life is not enough, Natti is being stalked by a mysterious, charming high school senior, Seth O’Keefe, who is annoyingly persistent in his attempts at seduction.

Seth O’Keefe is secretly a member of the Sons of Set, an order that worships the Egyptian god of chaos. Seth’s blessing from Set, his “charm,” never failed, except with one person: Natti Stone. Her ability to elude him infatuates and infuriates him, and he becomes obsessed with the chase. But the closer he gets to her, the more his emotions take a dangerous turn, and he risks breaking one of the most valued covenants of his order. The punishment for which is a fate worse than death.

The adventure this unlikely couple becomes engulfed in could cost them their lives and their souls.

Tell us something unique about yourself.
I’m a biologist by day and a writer/blogger by night—well, dawn and dusk, and on weekends.

What inspired your novel, Daughter of Isis? What makes it special?
I’m not really sure where the bizarre and flustering dream came from, but Daughter of Isis was inspired by it. And it just branched off in a rush from there. In thirty days, I finished my first draft. Daughter of Isis is special because it’s the novel that launches Natti and Seth into an adventure that could cost both characters everything, including their souls.

What inspired you to use Egyptian mythology as the background for Daughter of Isis?
Honestly, at first, I wasn’t sure what I’d base the book on. I only knew from the dream that Seth was a charmer and he was looking for something from Natti. A secret which she was carrying for the gods. But which gods? My first thought was Greek, but I decided that was overdone.  Then I remembered a story my Reading Shakespeare professor told us: the legend of Isis and Osiris. It fit the concept I was building perfectly!

In your eyes, what makes Seth so appealing?
Oh lordie. There are so many things. His copper hair—as much as I like dark haired characters, I fall head over heels for fair hair. His eyes—just writing about their hypnotic, turquoise gaze makes me melt. His touch—I don’t think any girl would be able to resist the intense sensation of his magic.

Which of Natti's friends do you like the best and why?
Kevin. He’s cute, quirky, and outgoing. And I love how he gives Jen such a hard time.

Which of Seth's friends do you like the best and why?
Oh, now that’s harder. Q and Ky are so different, and yet I almost have the same feelings toward both of them. Though I think I would lean more toward Q. He might be a genius-snob to everyone around him, and has a poor temper, but I admire his loyalty to Seth.

Do you have any other books in the works? What are your future goals?
Well, Son of Set (Descendant of Isis #2) is almost ready for the final editing process and will hopefully be released in Spring 2014. I’m also currently working on Name of Ra, the final novel of the Descendants of Isis trilogy, and a New Adult Dark Fantasy called Dark Reflections, where a nineteen-year-old girl, Alana, is cursed and forced to live on an inaccessible island. Even in paradise, it seems there will be no end to her miserable existence, until one day, Cole finds himself trapped on the same island. Will they find a way to break the curse and find their way home?

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would that be?
Oo, though I really love North Carolina and the beach, I would say I want to live in London, England. It’s where my father’s father came from and the few times I’ve been there, I felt like I was returning home.

Describe your dream office/home.
My dream office would have room for two desks—one for my work and one for packing and shipping—plenty of bookshelves for my research and novel collection, and a free wall for my novels’ covers.

What is your favorite genre to read?
Young Adult and New Adult. Mostly Fantasy, Paranormal, and Science Fiction.

Which fictional male character(s) set you heart racing?
OMG! There are so many! Justin from The Weight of Souls by Bryony Pearce; then there’s Caben from Of Silver and Beasts by Trisha Wolfe; Oo, Daemon from the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout; Cash and Easton from the Kissed by Death series by Tara Fuller . . . Yeah, the list goes on. LOL.

Cats or dogs?
Cats. Though I like dogs, too. I had a corgi, who I absolutely loved.

Chocolate or vanilla?
Chocolate.

Ice cream or cake?
Ice cream cake! Hee hee.

Blonds or Brunettes?
As I mentioned before, I fall head over heels for the fair haired boys. :)
