Virtual Book Tour [Review & Excerpt + Giveaway!] ARV-3 (The after life saga #1) by Cameo Renae

The beginning of the end. The Apocalypse.

A nuclear fallout wiped out every living thing on the planet, except for a few thousand of us who took shelter in underground bunkers across the globe. Now, after thirteen long years, we were finally able to return to the topside to begin to rebuild.

We thought we were alone. We were never more wrong.

Before the fallout, scientists had worked on creating an anti-radiation vaccine (ARV). The first two attempts failed, but despite the incomplete tests and results, the government approved and distributed the third serum to the masses in an effort to aid those who had no shelter.

It worked, keeping those who remained on the topside alive, but it also altered and mutated them. This new and infectious threat had completely outnumbered us. Now, we not only had to rebuild our planet. We would have to fight for it.

My name is Abigail Park. I'm seventeen, and this is my story.

This novel is set 13 years after the nuclear power plants across the globe began to meltdown. That’s when Abigail Park and the 14 others in her group decided it was time to come up to the surface. They had spent 13yrs in a hive(shelter)  trying to stay safe from the radiation of the nuclear plants. When they finally got the all clear they find out there was now another threat to them besides just the left over radiation. After leaving the hive, they set off traveling to the safe zone. The trip was action packed and they encountered many mutants along the way.

I absolutely loved all of the characters. I enjoyed getting to know them all as the book went along. Abi was great! She was such a strong heroine. She had trained with guns and was an expert marksman. Finn grew up in the bunker with Abi and was her best friend. They had a very close relationship and had very strong feelings for one another. Finn was great. He was such a sweetie pie! The romance factor was perfect. Then there was Tina. She was Abi's roommate in the safe zone and quickly became her best friend.  Tina's father was the power hungry general there and he would do anything to “flex his muscles”, even if that meant arresting his own daughter. The story escalades once Abi and Tina find something very interesting that they only found by snooping a little. The story is every bit an awesome cliff hanger and I can’t wait for the next one!!

If you enjoy dytopian/post apocalyptic novels and a little human, mutant,  “zombie” like action thrown in than you will love this. Cameo did an awesome job and I am so glad I decided to read it.

5 HOOTS for ARV-3

I walked up to the tarp and knelt down next to it.
“Abi, I don’t think you want to do that,” Finn whispered behind me.
“Why?” I breathed. My fingers brushed the rough fabric.
“Because, it’s just not a good idea,” he said.
He knew that wasn’t a good enough answer for me. This was something I needed to see now. I needed to know what I was up against, so that I wouldn’t freak out and freeze when I saw it for the first time, alive. This was my way. I knew myself best, and I didn’t like surprises.
My fingers carefully wrapped around the edge of the tarp and then slowly lifted. I gasped, but couldn’t tear my eyes away. Milky white eyes were wide and steeled on me. There was a strong, putrid smell the mask could not block.
The creature was completely hairless, and its skin was creased with countless wrinkles, appearing scabrous and leathery. It was horribly pale. Purplish blue veins protruded and snaked all over its body.
Its eyes were sunken deep into its skull; the teeth were horribly rotted and looked as if they’d been sharpened at some point. Each finger was bony and curled. The nails were long and sharp, covered with filth. I tried to search for anything that resembled humanity, but there wasn’t much left. It was a sickly, horrifying mutation.
Thick crimson liquid was seeping from a bullet wound to its chest. It was something right out of a worst nightmare. Suddenly its hand shot up and touched my arm.
I screamed and jumped back into the sturdy arms of Finn.
“Don’t worry. It’s dead. It’s just the muscles reacting to random impulses from the nerves,” Dr. Banks said, covering the body back up.” I don’t think the others should see this.”

Cameo Renae was born in San Francisco, CA, raised in Maui, Hawaii, and recently moved with her husband and children to Alaska.

She loved reading from as long as she can remember, and it was C.S. Lewis' - Chronicles of Narnia - which sparked a fire in her soul and made her want to create her own wondrous, magical worlds and awesome characters to go on adventures with.

In My Dreams & Hidden Wings were both recently published through Crushing Hearts and Black Butterfly Publishing earlier this year. Descent (A Hidden Wings novella) was released May 15, 2013, and Broken Wings (Book 2 in the Hidden Wings Series) was released June 1, 2013.

Her most recent release is ARV-3. A YA Post-Apocalyptic, Dystopian novel with a new twist on zombies.

She is currently working on the next Hidden Wings Series book titled: Tethered Wings. No release date yet. :)

One day she hopes to find her own magic wardrobe, and ride away on her magical unicorn... Until then... she'll keep writing!

by Ron Corriveau
Publication date: May 18th 2013
Genres: Romance, Thriller, Young Adult

Synopsis:
Melina has been preparing for a future career as a spy.

She just doesn’t know it.

Legendary spy Evan Roberts always knew that his fifteen-year-old daughter Melina also possessed the absolute lack of fear required of an agent. Without telling her his real profession or his intention, he began to guide her toward an eventual career as a spy. However, Melina’s world is shattered after her mom is involved in an accident that leaves her mysteriously unhurt but unresponsive. Her father’s plans on hold, Melina settles into life at a suburban high school, immersing herself in a world of schoolwork, her friends and a budding romance with Alex, the cute new guy in her class.

When Melina and her father uncover shocking new information about her mother’s accident, Melina is pulled deep into her father’s shadowy world. With Alex desperately trying to find her and only hours to go before it will be too late to save her mother, Melina and her father work together using their combined skills to find a way to reach her.

Last book you read?
I read the last of the Hunger Games books, Mocking Jay. My daughter, Melina, made everyone in the family read the series, and I was the last holdout. As I am writing this, we just got back from seeing Catching Fire at the theater. This touched off a Peeta vs. Gale discussion with my daughter when we got home. We are on opposite teams.

Last movie you watched?
Christmas-eve was last night, so the whole family got into our Christmas pajamas and watched Elf before we went to bed.

First TV character to come to mind?
Mordecai and Rigby (sorry, two characters.) The two main characters from the Cartoon Network cartoon, Regular Show. My son, Travis, watches this show all day. It is the weirdest cartoon I have ever seen, and I can’t help but watch it with him.

Song that’s stuck in your head?
As soon as I read “stuck in your head,” my mind went right for the mother of all songs that get stuck in your head: It’s a Small World, from the ride at Disneyland. I grew up in Southern California, so we went to Disneyland a lot.

Last thing you Googled?
Every day, I Google “Texas Rangers” and the words “trade” and “rumors” with the time frame set to Past 24 Hours, so I can keep up to date on off-season transactions for my favorite baseball team. I played baseball for years, and I truly love the game.

Farthest place you’ve traveled?
I spent some time working in Egypt, so I got to travel all over that country. The city of Abu Simbel, which is just north of the Sudanese border, is the furthest that I got.

Favorite snack?
Tortilla chips. Especially the ones at a Mexican restaurant.

Coffee or tea?
Coffee. I consider it a necessity.

Book you are reading?
I am not currently reading a book, but my daughter has made everyone in the family read the Divergent series. It seems that I am next. I have until the movie comes out.

BLOG TOUR [Guest Post + Giveaway!] The Secret of Isobel Key by Jen McConnel

The Secret of Isobel Key
by Jen McConnel
Published by: Bloomsbury Spark
Publication date: December 19th 2013
Genres: Contemporary, Mystery, New Adult

Synopsis:
Lou is in the middle of a quarter-life crisis. Fresh out of college, she’s unemployed and unsure of herself. But when she gets the chance to escape to Scotland with her best friend, it could be the answer to her quest for self-discovery. The trip is not at all what she expected, especially when her tour guide turns out to be the dreamy historian Brian, and together they embark on a hunt for information about Isobel Key, a woman accused of witchcraft in the seventeenth century.

They set out to learn the truth of the condemned witch, but Lou isn’t prepared for the knowledge that awaits her. She must face her own demons if she has any hope of righting the wrongs of the past. Flashing between the seventeenth century and modern day Scotland, The Secret of Isobel Key is a mystery that will please readers of all ages.

5 Things I Could Give My Character for Her Birthday

Lou, the 21-year old protagonist of THE SECRET OF ISOBEL KEY, celebrates her birthday on October 6th. This also happens to be my husband’s birthday, and he busted out laughing the first time he read the book and spotted that little fact. (Ah, the fun little secrets writers tuck into their books!)  If I threw a birthday party for Lou, here are five things I think she’d really love:

A vintage (working) 35mm camera. Lou loves shooting with film, and I’d love to give her a vintage camera that she could use. She appreciates history (actually, that’s an understatement), so I know this is one gift that she’d adore.
A classic tea set. When she was in Scotland, Lou really started to like tea, and I think she’d have a lot of fun serving tea in a classic china set, saucers and all. For the pattern, I’d pick either thistles (to remind her of her bittersweet adventures in Scotland) or  the Blue Willow pattern.
A tarot deck. I don’t think Lou would like either of the decks I use, but I think she’d enjoy discovering a new form of divination (in addition to her scrying lesson in the book), so I’d love to give her a tarot deck to practice with!
A hope chest. Lou’s a bit of an old-fashioned romantic, and I think she’d swoon over a vintage cedar chest, also known as a “hope chest”, used by women to hold their sundries and linens in hopes of their married life one day. Lou wouldn’t necessarily use the chest that way, but I think she’d love to store her travel mementos in it.
A photo album. She might not want to put her photos from her trip to Scotland in it, but I know she’d find a good way to fill it!
This was harder than I thought, but so much fun! Thanks for giving me the chance to talk about Lou (and THE SECRET OF ISOBEL KEY) today!
