Welcome Author Pembroke Sinclair
I write fiction under the pen name Pembroke Sinclair, and I have had several short stories published. My story, “Sohei,” was named one of the Best Stories of 2008 by The Cynic Online Magazine. I have novellas and a short story collection forthcoming from Musa Publishing and eTreasures Publishing. I have two novels, Coming from Nowhere (adult, sci fi) and Life After the Undead (YA, horror), that are available from eTreasures Publishing, as well as Death to the Undead (YA, sequel to Life After the Undead), which is forthcoming. Life After the Undead was a Top Ten Finisher in the Preditors and Editors Reader’s Poll in the YA category and the cover art category.
Under my real name, from March 2008 to January 2011, I wrote scientific articles for Western Farmer-Stockman. I have a nonfiction book, Life Lessons from Slasher Films, scheduled for release in July 2012 from Scarecrow Publishing (an imprint of Rowman and Littlefield).
I have my Master’s in English, and I am a freelance content editor for Musa Publishing, as well as a former content and line editor for eTreasures Publishing.
If you could travel in a time machine where would you go back to the past or into the future?
Can I do both? There are things I would love to see in the past and the future. I would love to check out the Victorian Age or go visit the Mayans. It might be cool to see how the West was really settled, too. And, of course, it would be awesome to see where we go from here. Granted, I wouldn’t want to stay for too long, though, I have stuff in the present to finish!
If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 things would you want with you?
Food, water, and a boat with gas to get me back home should I choose to use it.
What is one book everyone should read?
Mine, of course! No, I don’t believe there is ONE book out that that encompasses the experience of reading or that holds the answers to all of the world’s questions. I think everyone should read as much as they can in all sorts of genres. You’ll never know when you’ll discover something inspiring, and you’ll always learn something new.
If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
The ability to multiply myself so I could take care of all the things I needed to take care of and yet still find time to write!
What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast?
My favorite thing to eat for breakfast are eggs, but I usually don’t have time in the morning so settle for a bowl of cereal.
If there was a ZOMBIE apocalypse what would be the first thing you do? And what would be your weapon of choice?
Get into the car and head out of town away from people where it was safe. My children are my first priority, and I need to make sure they are out of harm’s way. I would have a hand gun and a sword/machete for when the bullets ran out.
What book are reading now?
I’m reading Witch World by Christopher Pike.
What’s your favorite season/weather?
I really like winter because my family and I snowmobile. There is nothing more fantastic than being out in the white world surrounded by people you love.
What was your favorite children's book?
I really enjoyed the Chronicles of Narnia series, but Alice in Wonderland is worth reading over and over.
Beach or Pool?
Pool. There’s nothing in the water that’s going to eat you.
Will we hear/see any more from Krista and Quinn? :)
It’s hard to say. An idea popped into my head for a third story, but it will all depend on if I’ll have the time to write it. :)
Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
I have an urban fantasy story coming out in April 2013 from MuseItUpPublishing called Wucaii, along with a middle grade book that will be out in February from Little Devil Books called The Ifs under the pen name J.D. Pooker. I’m working on the sequel to The Ifs, then I’m playing it by ear what will come next!
Death to the UndeadBook 2Pembroke SinclairGenre: YA horrorPublisher: eTreasures PublishingNumber of pages: 286Cover Artist: Jerrod BrownThe battle that began in Life After the Undead continues.
Zombies changed her life completely...Tough teenager Krista escaped to the safety of Florida after her parents were killed by the zombie horde. She united with General Liet, a distant cousin, and moved with him to North Platte to help build a wall to keep the zombies in the West. Krista fell in love with Quinn, a survivor and fighter from the zombie-infested wildlands of the West, and together they freed the garrison at North Platte from the power-hungry Liet. But zombies aren’t the only enemy they have to face...Now, North Platte is free, but Liet was not the only one using the zombie apocalypse to control their people. Florida is ruled by five ruthless Families, who use intimidation and the threat of the zombie horde to coerce their populace. Krista and Quinn hatch a desperate plan to run guns into the state and help the people revolt. Krista and Quinn, labeled as rebels run for their lives when the Families attack North Platte. The Families want them captured, the zombies want to eat them, and other survivors want them dead. Caught in between powerful forces, they must survive long enough to devise a new plan and put it into action, all while trying to solidify their new relationship and trying not to self-destruct in the meantime.
"'Rome wasn't built in a day.'"
Welcome back to North Platte where now it's free and liberating Florida is next on their agenda. Krista and Quinn are back in this sequel to Life After The Undead. They have captured Liet and all his cronies and they sit in the jail. Krista is recovering from the bullet Liet put in her shoulder. Florida and The Families aren't happy with the over throw of Liet and the rebels and attempt to kill them and destroy the city. Krista and Quinn figure this is about to happen when the news gets back to Florida so they pack up North Platte and head west. Then low and behold they don't even get out of town good when the city is destroyed.
This book picks right back up with Krista and Quinn and their experiences trying to escape Florida's attack and then trying to liberate and free Florida from The Families.I enjoyed this book as much as the first one. It was great how Sinclair just dropped us off right back at where the first book ended and it started with a boom and never slowed down. Where the first book to me was slow going at the beginning this one was not. Once I started reading I couldn't put it down.
Again, like in the first book there were zombies but this book dealt more with the maturing and growing of the characters. And their accepting the role to free Florida even though they aren't sure how or if the people of Florida want to be free. Don't get me wrong there's plenty of gory zombie action to keep all of us zombie fans on the edge of our seats and turning those pages. You will be pleasantly surprised as you dive back into the lives of Krista and Quinn. The book was everything I expected and a few more zombies. I hope that Sinclair writes a few more in this series because I have grown to really like Krista and Quinn. :)
"And in the end, all that mattered was that my parents could send me out into the world and I would be able to survive on my own. They taught me well."
I definitely give Sinclair, Krista, & Quinn 5 Stars.
