A beep sounds off as Warner locks down the vehicle so he doesn’t wander off. No one can get in or out.

Most of the [Men in Black] black suits’ vehicles are equipped with the feature. Of course, that’s a lesson I learned the hard way...more than once.

From the trunk Warner pulls a shiny black, rectangular box. I think he’s going to open it from the top, but he slides his index finger over one of the small ends and it disappears. The end, not his finger. Warner repeats the motion on the opposite end and a large red button appears.

“Probably pretty tempting not to pocket one of those suit gadgets and try your luck as a magician in Vegas.” I smirk.

“You laugh,” he says. “But they actually have protocols in place for that. They call it the Penn and Teller Contingent.”

“Seriously?”

He just shrugs as he begins to pump the red button. With each intake of air, the box hums and whirs as he watches a tiny screen that has appeared on its top.

“There’s a trace of her DNA still here,” he announces. “Maybe we can find a trail.”

“So that’s like a bloodhound in a box? Handy.”

He tips his chin up to me. “DNA detector. Analyzes hair, bodily fluids, and even microscopic skin particles floating in the air. Anything that contains DNA, no matter how small, this device is on it.”

“Handy and disgusting.”

“Let’s focus on the handy,” he suggests.

Welcome to the DARKEST REACHES release event!

Darkest Reaches (Spiritual Discord, #3)
Release Date: April 30th, 2015

Synopsis:

Kayson and the other fallen angels have risked their lives to keep Sabrina safe as she recovered from a Hell hound’s bite. Just when she began to improve, Hell was unleashed as the hounds attacked, and kidnapped Sabrina.

Now, only days after the fight between the fallen and the hounds, Kayson is determined to find Sabrina and bring her back from Hell. The only thing standing in his way is a dangerous fallen angel named Iraja. Iraja has the means to find Sabrina, but he doesn’t do favors without a price.

Sabrina is now facing the nightmare she’s been running from since being turned into a vampire a century ago: her eternal condemnation to Hell. Knowing her only chance of survival may rest by playing nice and turning Hell hound Falon against Lucifer, Sabrina gives into the bitter darkness and now has to fight to remember the good soul she truly is. But when she discovers the role her and the innocent human Emma are forced to play, will her fear get the better of her, and will she be lost forever?

In the third installment of the Spiritual Discord series, the will to survive is tested, worst fears become a reality, and for one, betrayal becomes the only option.

Brandy Nacole resides in Arkansas where her imagination runs wild. Her obsession is reading but her passion is writing. She put her dream of becoming a writer on the back burner and went to college to become a psychologist. Three years after endless classes in a field she only felt half satisfied with, Brandy picked up her pen once again and wrote the outline to Uniquely Unwelcome. She finished out her degree in psychology, but traded her dream of writing for the degree and put psychology on the back burner.

Whenever she’s not reading or writing, Brandy is spending time with her family and friends, throwing around crazy ideas, teaching , and singing like a rock star at a concert for no one else but herself. She loves plants, but unfortunately is a killer of anything that requires water but can’t voice (scream) their needs.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DREADFUL LIES.
UNEXPECTED LOVE.
IMPOSSIBLE TRUTH.

It only took one heartbeat to change my life—one chilling phone call in the middle of the night.

And then, as if my life didn’t already suck, my dad sends my brother and me to some idyllic island for the summer to live with a grandma we never met. WTH. Naturally, I rebel. In the end, I find myself shipped off to Raven Hallow…and bored to tears.

Until I get an eyeful of the mind-bendingly gorgeous Zane Hunter. The dark-hair cutie makes my pulse go bonkers, and I think, maybe this might not be so bad after all. Six feet of swoon inducing looks, with a hint of Celtic charm in his voice, he was the type of guy that left a string of broken hearts in his wake. And I had all the heartbreak I could handle.

Yet, there is something uncanny, almost supernatural about Zane, and it’s not just his devastating smirk. No matter how much distance I put between us, Raven Hallow isn’t big enough, and the sparking tension between is undeniable. Of course, the one person I want to avoid becomes my salvation.

My past comes back to terrorize me. Someone wants me dead, and the closer I get to the truth, the more I realize my whole life is a lie. I am no longer sure what is more frightening—the attempts on my life or the guy whose heart and soul are synchronized with mine.

Excerpt from White Raven:

TJ and Rose kept the conversation rolling as I gave the appropriate one-word responses or a head nod. I didn’t have much of an appetite, mostly picking at my chicken Caesar salad and gazing out at the ocean, until…
His hair was black as a wintry night, eyes icy blue as a gypsy’s heart. He had a lazy saunter about him and a glint of humor twinkling in those heart-melting eyes. There was nothing loose about his body, muscles bunching as he tethered a boat to the dock. I twiddled the straw, staring brazenly.
Good God. I wanted to have his babies. Not now, but most definitely someday.
And just like that, my summer got a billion times hotter…and interesting—way more interesting. I bit my lip, mulling over how I was going to accidently fall into his pants. Um—I mean path or even his lap would do, anything to get that one’s attention.
Drool hit the table in a mad case of fangirl, and I didn’t even know his name.
As if he sensed he was being slobbered over, his eyes scraped over me, and I held my breath. Holy hot tamales. An electric bolt of…lust maybe, I really didn’t know what it was, but it coiled through my body, making me shudder. A flicker of an unidentified emotion crossed his face, right before a secret smile appeared on his lips. Oh man, don’t get me started on his lips.
Elbows propped on the table, I rested my head on the edge of my palms, continually gazing and getting lost in the depths of his eyes. He hypnotized me. I followed his movements, my eyes glued to him. Then one of my elbows slipped off the table in classic Piper form, and down I went. I caught myself just before my chin whacked a corner of the patio table.
Only me.
Mortified, I closed my eyes.
TJ laughed. “Smooth, Pipe. I think you made a lasting impression.”

Dragons Are People, Too
Release Date: 04/28/15
Entangled Teen

Sixteen-year-old Kitty Lung has everyone convinced she’s a normal teen—not a secret government operative, not the one charged with protecting the president’s son, and certainly not a were-dragon. The only one she trusts with the truth is her best friend—and secret crush—the über-hot Bulisani Mathe.

Then a junior operative breaks Rule Number One by changing into his dragon form in public—on Kitty’s watch—and suddenly, the world knows. About dragons. About the Draconic Intelligence Command (DIC) Kitty works for. About Kitty herself.

Now the government is hunting down and incarcerating dragons to stop a public panic, and a new shape-shifting enemy has kidnapped the president’s son. Kitty and Bulisani are the last free dragons, wanted by both their allies and their enemies. If they can’t rescue the president’s son and liberate their fellow dragons before getting caught themselves, dragons might never live free again.

The Title is the Thing

Thank you so much for having me on your blog today!

Writers usually dread the “where do you get your ideas?” question, but in this case, I love telling this story.

Let me set the scene: It’s a few days before Halloween and me and my BFF Chelsea (who loves to read YA fantasy) are carving pumpkins and drinking more wine than you should drink when you’re handling sharp objects. I’d been querying a previous book about demons and kids with magic.

“What are some comp titles for Miranda’s Fire?” I ask.

Chelsea, who already knows what a comp title is because she listens to every word I utter about publishing, no matter how boring I get, says, “Dragons are People, Too!”

It’s never easy to tell if Chelsea is kidding. Just the other day she told me a story about a statue falling down and how thirty people rushed to catch it until it could be repaired and I still don’t know whether that’s true or not. “I don’t,” I start, hesitantly. “I don’t think I’ve head of that.”

“Oh, I just made it up!” She laughs.

I never did get a good comp title suggestion. But I started thinking about the book title. I could write that, I think. Like, Dragons are literally people, too.

“I’m going to get a kitty and name it Dragon,” Chelsea always used to say.

I finally came up with a decent reply one day. “Well, I’m going to get a dragon and name it Kitty.”

Your move, Chelsea.

BLOG TOUR [Interview + Giveaway] UNDERTOW by Michael Buckley

UNDERTOW
by Michael Buckley
Pub. Date: May 5, 2015
Publisher: HMH Books for Young Readers
Pages: 384
Formats: Hardcover, eBook

Sixteen-year-old Lyric Walker’s life is forever changed when she witnesses the arrival of 30,000 Alpha, a five-nation race of ocean-dwelling warriors, on her beach in Coney Island. The world’s initial wonder and awe over the Alpha quickly turns ugly and paranoid and violent, and Lyric’s small town transforms into a military zone with humans on one side and Alpha on the other. When Lyric is recruited to help the crown prince, a boy named Fathom, assimilate, she begins to fall for him. But their love is a dangerous one, and there are forces on both sides working to keep them apart. Only, what if the Alpha are not actually the enemy? What if they are in fact humanity’s only hope of survival? Because the real enemy is coming. And it’s more terrifying than anything the world has ever seen.

Action, suspense, and romance whirlpool dangerously in this cinematic saga, a blend of District 9 and The Outsiders.

If you had a time machine, where would you go (past or future) and who would you like to visit?
I think I'd like to see how my son's life unfolds. Not to sound depressing but my wife and I didn't have him until we were 38 and though I feel fairly confident I'll be around to see the big moments, I know that there will be lots of things I will miss. I'd like to see him become a father, and a grandfather, and peek in to see if he finds someone lovely to share a couple of rocking chairs on a porch. I'd like to visit him and let him know I was always proud of him.

What’s next on you TBR Pile?
My TBR pile is frighteningly high but I'm torn between The History of Rock 'N' Roll In Ten Songs by Greil Marcus or Watch the Sky by Kirsten Hubbard. Right now I'm working on Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater. It's the fourth book in the Raven Boys series and I love it.

Where is your favorite spot to read?
I find that the best place to read is in a hammock and it doesn't matter where that hammock is located. My wife and I recently bought a house with some friends and we were planning the perfect hammock location just the other day.

If you were on Death Row what would your last meal be?
I think I'd ask Angie Mar to come and surprise me. She's the executive chef at The Beatrice Inn in New York and recently cooked for my wife and I. It was the most decadent and amazing meal—rabbit pot pie, a 45-day aged burger, milk braised pork shoulder—and not a vegetable in sight! Oh, and there would have to be a milk shake.

Favorite vacation spot?
I've been lucky to have seen a few places that I love—Prague, Paris, London, Beijing, Shanghai, even Honduras—but spending a week in Fair Harbor on Fire Island in New York is my favorite. There are no cars, just bikes, and all the fishing shacks are divided by boardwalks. There's one restaurant, one store, one ice cream shop and almost no wifi, but it's heaven.

Can we get a hint on what you are working on? What are your future plans?
Right now I'm focused on Undertow and its sequels. The second book is called Raging Sea and it's very different than the first, and I'm plotting out the third. After that, I've got about ten ideas I'd like to work on—I just have to listen for whichever is the loudest one in my head. I might be teaming up with Adele Griffin and Julia Devillers on a YA series, and I'm kicking around a middle-grade stand-alone. I never have a shortage of ideas—just a shortage of time to actually do them.
