Entangled Teen
Summary from Goodreads:
After a brutal nuclear war, the
United States was left decimated. A small group of survivors eventually banded
together, but only after more conflict over which family would govern the new
nation. The Westfalls lost. Fifty years later, peace and control are maintained
by marrying the daughters of the losing side to the sons of the winning group
in a yearly ritual.
This year, it is my turn.
My name is Ivy Westfall, and my mission is simple: to kill the president’s son—my soon-to-be husband—and restore the Westfall family to power.
But Bishop Lattimer is either a very skilled actor or he’s not the cruel, heartless boy my family warned me to expect. He might even be the one person in this world who truly understands me. But there is no escape from my fate. I am the only one who can restore the Westfall legacy.
Because Bishop must die. And I must be the one to kill him…

I always like learning a little more about authors whose books I read, so I figured in that spirit I’d answer a few random questions about myself.
What’s your favorite color?
Green
What’s your favorite food?
Guacamole
Do you like to plan things out in detail or be spontaneous?
It’s funny because, in life, I am NOT spontaneous. I hate surprises and usually have everything planned out in great detail. But I’m a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants writer. I don’t outline. I usually know how the story will start and how it will end, but the journey from Point A to Point Z is a mystery.
Summer or winter?
Winter, always. I love snow, cold, boots and scarves, the holidays. Pretty much anything related to winter makes me happy.
Would you rather live in the country or the city?
The city. I like the hustle and bustle of big cities, the noise, the energy, although the traffic can make me want to tear my hair out.
Do you like spicy food?
Yes, I love it. The hotter the better; if what I’m eating makes me cry, then it’s a good meal.
Are you an extrovert or introvert?
Such an introvert. I enjoy spending time with friends, but I need long stretches of alone time. I loathe small talk and being in big groups of people I don’t know well makes me want to vomit with anxiety.
High heels or flats?
High heels. Stilettos aren’t really practical for my daily life, but if I could get away with wearing high heels every day, I would.
Do you cry easily?
No. I’m not known as a crier, at least not with real life events. But books and movies can really bring on the water works for me.
What is your biggest fear?
My biggest fear is flying; I dread it. I was on airplanes all the time as a kid and it never bothered me. But I got a little older, it hit me that we were thousands of miles up in the air and the thought of falling through space...cue the panic attack. I still fly, but I hate every second of it.
Amy Engel was born in Kansas and after a childhood spent bouncing between countries (Iran, Taiwan) and states (Kansas; California; Missouri; Washington, D.C.), she settled in Kansas City, Missouri, where she lives with her husband and two kids. Before devoting herself full-time to motherhood and writing, she was a criminal defense attorney, which is not quite as exciting as it looks on TV. When she has a free moment, she can usually be found reading, running, or shoe shopping. The Book of Ivy is her debut YA novel. Find her online at http://amyengel.net/ or @aengelwrites.
