Virtual Book Tour [Interview + Giveaway!] Matt Archer: Bloodlines by Kendra C. Highley

Matt Archer: Bloodlines
by Kendra C. Highley
Date Published: 1/4/2014
YA Paranormal

When seventeen-year-old Matt Archer set out on his last mission in the Australian Outback, he thought it would be like every other hunt.
Not even close.
After only two days on the ground, his best friend is possessed, a long-lost family member has returned and hidden truths have come to the surface. Add in a coven of witches bent on bringing about the end of the world and, well, this trip has started to suck. Badly.
As his power and strength continue to grow, so does Matt’s concern that he’s becoming more and more like the creatures he’s been charged to hunt: a monster.
Faced with some of his biggest challenges to date, Matt has to decide what he needs to protect most—his family, his team…or himself.

If you could live in any book “world” which book would it be?
I think I’d want to live in Daughter of Smoke and Bone. Our time, our world, but magic is real and Angels walk among us.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
An oceanographer…then a doctor…then a teacher. I ended up a human resources manager. Kind of a detour, huh?

What was your favorite book as a child/teen?
I had quite a few, but I read The Hobbit and Dicey’s Song over and over again. I also loved A Wrinkle in Time.

You are stranded on a deserted island, what 3 things would you want?
A satellite phone, to call for help; an endless supply of good dark chocolate; Swiss Army knife.

M&M’s or Skittles?
M&Ms, hands down. Especially if they were the dark chocolate ones.

Favorite ice cream?
Six months ago, I’d say chocolate almond. Since then, I’ve discovered a milk allergy so, sadly, no more ice cream for me.

What’s your favorite season/weather?
 I love fall.

Beach or pool?
Pool. I have a thing about swimming with other creatures. Silly, but true.

If you had a time machine where would you go back in time or ahead?
And who would you like to visit.  Hmm, that’s tough. I think I’d want to go back and meet Jane Austen.

Any advice for writer’s just starting out?
Find a good critique group. Pick writers who you feel are farther along in the process, and have them honestly (and brutally) read your work. The best way to improve is to seek hardcore advice and learn from it.

Any pet peeves?
When people are inconsiderate. It’s the little acts of kindness that make someone’s day, and it doesn’t take much effort to be polite and nice.

Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
Because it’s awesome! Oh, sorry—that’s what Matt would say. Here’s the real deal: His best friend’s possessed, witches are hunting him, and his family is…complicated; so far, Matt Archer wonders how he got into this situation…but more, how he’ll get out of it.

Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.
Getting emails from readers who enjoyed the books. It’s great to hear from people.

Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
I’m working on the last Matt Archer novel, as well as a fun contemporary YA about a high school newspaper reporter. It’ll be a busy year!

Thanks!
