The world has come to an end. It doesn't go out with a bang, or even a whimper. It goes out in an orgy of blood and the dead rising from their graves to feast on living flesh. As democracy crumples and the world melts into anarchy, five familes in the U.S. rise to protect the survivors. The undead hate a humid environment, so they are migrating westward to escape its deteriorating effects. The survivors are constructing a wall in North Platte to keep the zombie threat to the west, while tyranny rules among the humans to the east.
In the beginning chapters of Life After The Undead, yet another Zombie novel, I was a little apprehensive. I didn't know where this book was going and it started off sounding like every other zombie novel out there, which happens way more than it should. Alas, I pressed on hoping that Pembroke would not let me down..
About halfway through I found out she did not!.
Sometimes a book that begins with writing that is very slow going and mediocre, as it progresses, the story strengthens to become a novel that gets me totally engrossed in it and I can’t put down. That is exactly what Life After The Undead did.
There are zombies in this book but this story deals more with the protagonists and her metamorphosis during the Zompacolyse. The story begins with Krista, a normal, everyday 15 year old teenager, whose life changes in one afternoon. While waiting on the school bus, she witnesses the zombie outbreak that reached her hometown and began “devouring” everyone. After fleeing the town with her parents, they both get killed due to their own stupidity, so Krista thinks. So she’s left on her own in a zombie infested world. She meets up with friends and eventually ends up in North Platte. a town that is being run by a crazy man. Krista meets the love interest Quinn, who helps her attain the knowledge and skills to become the kind of person it takes to survive and become a leader and to help her take back the country. The romance was subtle and sweet. Krista and Quinn quickly became the best of friends.
I love the fact at first Krista is a typical teenager and she ends up a butt kicking zombie slayer. Where once she couldn't do anything for herself, now she is accepting the role of leadership to help get rid of the undead and the living, that want to keep people scared to go out and make a new world. Even though at the beginning I was ready to throw in the towel, this novel did turn out to be a really good zombie book.
Life After The Undead will have your emotions strung high and your pulse quickening as Krista and her friends battle the undead and the living to take back the country.

The only zombie book I've read is SOMETHING STRANGE AND DEADLY. It was alright, but I'll have to look into this one!
