Paranormalcy (Paranormalcy #1) by Kiersten White

Paranormalcy (Paranormalcy, #1)Paranormalcy by Kiersten White

Summary (Goodreads)

Weird as it is working for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, Evie’s always thought of herself as normal. Sure, her best friend is a mermaid, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she's falling for a shape-shifter, and she's the only person who can see through paranormals' glamours, but still. Normal.

Only now paranormals are dying, and Evie's dreams are filled with haunting voices and mysterious prophecies. She soon realizes that there may be a link between her abilities and the sudden rash of deaths. Not only that, but she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.

So much for normal.

REVIEW

My daughter recommended this book to me after I had begun to get into YA paranormal. I was excited to finally start on Kiersten White's universe because I have always heard great things about her. But I was a little disappointed of how "immature" I thought it was. Now remember I have a "40" *cough cough* something viewpoint, looking at this through the eyes of a teenager. (And it's been a while since I was a teenager.) :)

So to say the least it was a little childish to me. I could just see myself with my elementary students sitting around me after lunch reading it to them. And that's not a bad thing. I think they would love it. I'm in no way saying that I did not enjoy this book but I just feel it should be more of a middle grade read instead of a YA. I was even looking for pictures. :)

That being said I enjoyed Evie's "in your face" attitude, standing up to everyone. I loved the plot to the story but would have loved it to be a deeper story line. All the paranormal's were cool. I especially like Lish and Lend. I'm not sure if I will read the rest of the series, but my daughter will continue on with the Kiersten White universe.
