Synopsis: Possessing the uncanny ability to fry a television set from twenty paces can really wreck a girl’s social life.

If you’re looking for proof, just ask sixteen-year-old Alexandra Parker. After catching her boyfriend in the arms of the prettiest girl in school, she made the journey from social elite to social pariah in a haze of electricity and exploding electronics. But finding herself at the bottom of Bay View High’s social hierarchy was nothing compared to the shock of discovering who—and what—she really is.

After being zapped out of a burning bookstore by the mysterious Declan—a hero nearly as handsome as he is infuriating—Alex finds herself under the protection of the powerful Grayson family. It’s through them that she learns the truth: that the world she’s always known is nothing like it appears to be... and that she has far more in common with them than she might want to believe.

Now, on the run from a fire-wielding hit man and a secretive government organization, Alex must navigate a strange and treacherous new world filled with superhuman mutants known as Variants. As she begins to unravel the many secrets of her family’s past, she uncovers the real reason for her parents’ death twelve years earlier—and finds out that the threat to her family, and to everyone she cares about, is still dangerously real.

SNEAK PEEK
The fire swept toward her as if it had a mind of its own, a sentient being driven by a single goal: to consume her.

Alex reached the end of the row of books and turned left, the fire spreading, following, taking the corner and closing fast, licking at her heels as she ran along the bookstore’s inside wall.

The only exit she knew of was at the front of the building, the area surrounding it now a veritable inferno. In desperation, she fled to the rear of the building, hoping to find another way out.

A putrid gray smoke had thickened the air inside the shop, stinging her throat as it filled her lungs. The threat of asphyxiation now seemed as imminent as the flames trailing only a few feet away.

Reaching the back corner, Alex spotted a door leading to the shop’s storeroom. She tried the handle with no luck, finally kicking the base of it in desperation.

Taking as many steps back toward the flames as she dared, Alex got up a running start and slammed her shoulder into the very center of the wood.

A blinding pain rocketed through her arm, spreading from the base of her neck to the very tips of her fingers. With a yelp, Alex bounced off the heavy door and fell to her knees before it.

The door was locked tight. It wasn’t going to budge.

She looked to her left. Her only other option was a spiral staircase leading to the upper balcony. The second tier of the store offered more walls lined with books, but no visible exit.

Alex got to her feet. The glass-paneled bookcases set against the nearby walls were already alight. Soon even the staircase wouldn’t be an option.

Realizing that the approaching flames had effectively made the decision for her, she started up the stairs, the handrails already hot to the touch.

Alex risked a glance upward and her heart sank at the sight of what awaited her at the top of the stairs.

Dirty blonde hair. Hazel eyes. Gray military-style jacket.

She came up short, four steps from the landing.
The look on his face held just a hint of amusement. “Well?” He offered her his hand. “You coming?”

She hesitated, weighing her options. Risk running back down the flaming aisles to find another exit? Or trust the guy who’d been stalking her all afternoon?

The fire had spread to the nearby shelves. The heat was growing unbearable.

“You cut me deep,” he said. “You’d actually choose a fiery death over the prospect of my company. I have to admit, that stings a bit.”

She didn’t move.

His expression grew serious. “Trust me, Alex.”

Still uncertain, but more fearful of the flames than of the stranger before her, she took his outstretched hand—and very nearly dropped it in surprise. The sensation was… electric.

Literally. There was an actual, live current passing between their joined hands.

The flames were closing in.

Dismissing the odd sensation, she gripped his hand tightly and climbed the remaining steps.

Upon reaching the landing, Alex looked quickly for the exit through which the stranger must have arrived… and found nothing. How had he gotten there?

Alex came to a stop before him and tried to pull her hand from his. He wasn’t letting go.

“Ready?” he asked. The self-assured smile he’d worn earlier was once again firmly in place.

“For what?” she choked out, the mixture of heavy smoke and utter panic causing her throat to tighten. “There’s no door!”

“Door?” The smile grew wider. “Who said anything about using a door?”

Alex opened her mouth to reply—and instantly wished she hadn’t.

Before she could form a word in protest, the world around them had fallen away. The sound of thunder roared in her ears as a sudden change in pressure knocked the air from her lungs and forced her eyes closed.

Just when she felt certain that her body would soon do the impossible and turn itself inside out, it was over.

The pressure was gone… and she was falling.

Alex’s eyes burst open. She was eye level with the treetops and falling fast, heading straight for a dark body of water that stretched out below her.

A cry of surprise slipped from her throat.

The grip on her hand tightened.

Alex caught one last glimpse of her savior as they broke the surface of the water. He was still smiling.

TOP TEN
 CELEBRITY CRUSHES
By Author Jena Leigh

10. Colin O'Donoghue – Gorgeous Irishman playing a pirate? Um, yes, thank you. More please. I don’t usually go for eyeliner on guys, but Colin turned me into a believer. Could he be any hotter playing Captain Hook on OUAT? Love him!

9. Ben Nichols – This Lucero frontman can serenade me with those growled vocals of his any day. Lucero’s music has gotten me through more than a few rough patches in my life. Ben’s unusual voice + his inked-up, alt-rock persona = perfection.

8. Matt Muenster – Yeah. This is that point in the list where you stop, blink stupidly for a moment, and go, “Wait. What? ... Did she just name that guy from Bath Crashers?” and I nod sagely and say, “Yes, my friend. I totally did.” I’ve spent more than a few sick days these last few years, curled up on the couch, watching marathons of home renovation shows on HGTV. It’s been my experience that laughter is always the best medicine, and Matt never fails to make me laugh. There’s nothing more attractive to me than a guy with a great sense of humor!

7. Tom Hiddleston – Does this one really need an explanation? Always the perfect gentleman and by all accounts a total sweetheart. Plus, he’s British! Love.
6. Tom Mison – Speaking of my weakness for Brits (and, apparently, for guy’s named Tom…). I’d never heard of Tom Mison before discovering him on the Fox show Sleepy Hollow, but now I absolutely adore him!

5. Chris Evans – I have to admit, whether he’s saving the world as Captain America or fighting off super-villains as the Human Torch, Chris Evans makes for a pretty drool-worthy hero. And with all those superhero gigs, I suppose it’s a good thing he looks great in those tights.

4. Garrett Hedlund – My original inspiration for Declan! The scruff, that rumbling voice, his always-perfectly-tousled hair… And he can play the guitar and sing, too! What’s not to love?

3. Jensen Ackles – Don’t get me wrong, I love my Moose (aka Jared Padalecki, for the non–SPN fans reading this), but Jensen’s had my heart since the very first episode of Supernatural aired back in 2005. Another early inspiration for Declan, Jensen will probably always have a place on my list of celebrity crushes!

2. Karl Urban – Bones! I love watching him as McCoy. Truthfully, though… After seeing him in Star Trek, Almost Human, and the Riddick series—I guess I love watching Karl Urban in pretty much anything. His wry sense of humor and crooked grin always manage to sneak through, no matter the role. I can’t get enough!

1. Chris Hemsworth – There’s a reason this man was picked for the role of Thor. I mean, if there’s another actor out there who could more perfectly embody that particular Norse god, I’d love to meet him. In the meantime, if you need me, I’ll just be here, drooling over my favorite Hemsworth brother.

BLOG TOUR [Spotlight & Sneak Peak + Giveaway!!] Warrior Beautiful (Riders of Paradesos, #1) by Wendy Knight

Warrior Beautiful (Riders of Paradesos, #1)
Author: Wendy Knight

Purchase on Amazon and Barnes and Noble!

Synopsis: Working with the ex you secretly love to save the souls of the innocent is almost as bad as working with a mighty battle unicorn who would be thrilled to watch you plummet to your death.

Scout is used to pain. Her body has been broken, her heart has been broken, and the only thing keeping her together is her relationship with her younger sister. Lil Bit be-lieves in unicorns and terrifying monsters she calls soul stealers. But unicorns and monsters aren’t real…are they?

When Lil Bit falls prey to the mysterious disease sweeping the country, Scout has two options – believe the doctors who say it’s a pandemic or believe Lil Bit, who says it’s the soul stealers. She chooses her sister and goes looking for the unicorns who are supposed to save them. What she finds aren’t the cute pastel mythical creatures she expects. Battle unicorns are big and tough and full of attitude. Who knew?

Unicorns are real and so are the monsters. Soul stealers are reaping the souls of the innocent, and the unicorns are fighting to stop them. But to save the world, they need the help of humans – the enemy they’re dying to protect. And first to sign up for the fight is the ex-boyfriend Scout’s heart won’t stop loving, no matter how determined she is to hate him.

**SNEAK PEAK!!!!**

Scout opened her mouth. Was she supposed to yell ‘yah!’ or something? “Don’t. Even. Think. About. It.” How Ashra could sound so firm and annoyed at the same time when she wasn’t actually even speaking was beyond Scout, but she snapped her mouth shut and looked around wildly for reins, or a mane to hold on to, or something.
“Grab the mist. It will become what you need.” Ashra still sounded annoyed, but she waited until Scout had a firm hand on the mane-of-mist.
How is it even possible to have a firm hold on mist? Scout wondered wildly as Ashra launched herself into the sky — straight up, no running start or anything. Scout stifled a howl and threw her arms around Ashra’s thick neck. She could hear the unicorn laughing at her; it bounced around like a loose pinball inside her skull.
“Quiet, you. I’ve never even ridden a horse, let alone a flying unicorn!” Scout yelled, but her words were lost in the wind as Ashra’s giant flaming wings spread out, beating easily against the sky.

Wendy Knight was born and raised in Utah by a wonderful family who spoiled her rotten because she was the baby. Now she spends her time driving her husband crazy with her many eccentricities (no water after five, terror when faced with a live phone call, etcetera, etcetera). She also enjoys chasing her three adorable kids, playing tennis, watching football, reading, and hiking. Camping is also big: her family is slowly working toward a goal of seeing all the National Parks in the U.S.

You can usually find her with at least one Pepsi nearby, wearing ridiculously high heel for whatever the occasion may be. And if everything works out just right, she will also be writing.

SNEAK PEEK & EXCERPT into… THE BOY FROM THE WOODS By Jen Minkman

SNEAK PEEK into…
THE BOY FROM THE WOODS
By Jen Minkman

Expected release: December 1, 2013
Young Adult Contemporary/Paranormal Romance
Pre-order: iTunes | Kobo

Julia has been in love with Michael for years. He’s the hottest guy in school, and she can’t believe her luck when they finally hit it off during Senior Prom. Her dream doesn’t last, though: after a few dates, he callously dumps her out of the blue. Summer vacation starts with Julia feeling heart-broken and miserable.
But then she rescues Michael in the woods when he has a motorcycle accident in a heavy thunderstorm. From that point onward, her life is turned upside down. Michael has changed completely after the blow to the head that nearly killed him... and he wants her back. But why is he so different? And will she be able to trust him this time around?

Can the boy who broke your heart ever win it back again..?

Sneak Peek Excerpt
Julia trailed behind her boss as she walked over to the cash register, looking left and right to catch a glimpse of her other colleagues.
“Kolbe!” her brand-new boss shouted toward the entrance. “Come and help me out, will you?”
Julia stopped dead, frozen in her tracks. Was she going deaf, or had Martin just said… Her heart hammered ridiculously fast as her eyes zoomed in on the front door.
“He’ll come and help you at the register.” Martin’s voice sounded as though it was coming from far away. He left her standing there, rooted to the spot.
Julia tried to snap out of her paralysis and stumbled the final few steps to the counter. Her breath hitched when she saw an all-too-familiar figure walking in her direction. She swallowed. But surely it couldn’t be. Oh God, no. No, no, no. This was not happening.
And then, she couldn’t look anywhere else but up, straight into two eyes green as the forest.

“What on earth are you doing here?” Julia stared at him in alarm.
“I work here,” he replied unfazed, a half-smile tugging at his lips.
“Since when?” It was simply not possible that she, in her unfailing stalker mode, had somehow missed this: Michael holding a job at the same bookstore she’d applied to two days ago.
“Since last week.”
His smug composure quickly turned her initial befuddlement into outright infuriation.
“Why?” she demanded fractiously.
He raised an eyebrow. “To earn some extra cash?” he declared in an ‘isn’t-that-really-obvious’ tone.
“But why here?”
Michael started to chuckle. “Why are you giving me the third degree?”
“Are you following me or something?” she grumbled, her heart treacherously leaping in her chest for a moment as she considered the possibility.
“Well, I’m sorry to burst your bubble here, but I think it’s the other way around. First, you turn up at the pub I always hang out at on weeknights, then, you decide to take a jog near the place where I almost had a fatal accident, and now you turn out to have applied for a job at the same store I’ve been working at for the past week. What does it look like to you?”
Shucks, he was right. Julia resisted the urge to stamp her foot like a little girl. “In your dreams, you arrogant bastard,” she muttered. “Everybody says I should stay away from you.”
In the silence that followed, she could still hear her heart beating in her throat.

Sixteen year old, Breanna Davis, has heard the saying; life isn’t always what it seems…well, that saying rings true now more than ever. As horrifying visions appear before her, revealing tragedies that will forever change the fate of those she loves, she realizes that she may be the only person who can stop them from becoming reality.
Amongst the chaos of this new discovery, Bre is faced with a stranger, Eve, who moves in on Bre’s friends and begins to follow her every move. As Eve’s true motives begin to surface, Bre must fight against, not only the visions, but the dangers Eve holds close.

Sneak Peek 1

PROLOGUE

I stood there, silently watching him, my mind willing me to move forward, but my body remained frozen. My heart began to beat heavily, the way it always does when he comes into view.  He was just ten feet away from me now. I felt lightheaded and found it difficult to breathe.
I decided this time I had to move slowly. I had to focus on slowing down my mind to take everything in.
I took one step closer, studying him carefully. His dark, almost black hair glistened in the descending sun. Even though I wasn’t looking directly at his face just yet, his beauty took my breath away. I felt it coming, one more step and he would know I was here.
I was anxious to see his face again, but unwilling for our encounter to end. I took a deep breath and moved, as if the simple action of taking each step was timed, he turned and rose to his feet, his face blank. I thought my heart was going to race out of my chest. I hoped for a sign this time, some kind of acknowledgment from him. Was he happy to see me? Was I not what he was expecting? What secret thoughts were running through his mind?
I knew the time had come. No more stalling, I had to go to him. I began moving toward the stream where he stood.  This time, I would look directly at him, look into his eyes and make myself known.
“Bre, this is Collin,” a voice introduced me as I approached. Though the voice was somehow familiar, I was oblivious to who had said it. All I cared about was making sure I captured this moment in every detail.  Collin’s deep, royal blue eyes looked into mine and I realized I had never felt like this before.  My nerves flared with an intensity that burned deep within me and held me captive in his gaze. Every bit of him was perfect. His silky hair fell perfectly over each side of his face. Occasionally, a strand or two would move gently across his forehead and dance along his eyes. His shirt melted into his chest, making it impossible for me to ignore the definition of his body.
He slowly lifted his hand, gesturing for me to take it. “It’s nice to meet you Bre.” His bright smile stretched across his mouth as he waited for me to respond.
I swallowed, knowing what was going to happen next. I tried again to slow my mind down even more, pleading with myself to make this moment last. When I couldn’t hold on any longer, I reached out my hand in one last attempt to succeed. But I failed, and woke up.

A little bit about Jamie ...

Jaime grew up in a small town in Northern California. Having a passion for dance and music, never would she have thought herself to become an author.

In late 2008, a story was born and a writer was developed. Jaime found the pieces of her novel beginning to take form and soon she had a full novel in her hands. Awaken is Jaime's first published novel. With many features still in the works, this debut novel is just a taste of the action-packed romantic thrillers to come from this aspiring new author.

Jaime is a committed wife and mother of 3, who loves life and doesn’t take anything for granted.
