[Review] Her Dear & Loving Husband by Meredith Allard

Her Dear & Loving Husband
by Meredith Allard

James Wentworth has a secret. He lives quietly in Salem, Massachusetts, making few ties with anyone. One night his private world is turned upside down when he meets Sarah Alexander, a dead ringer for his wife, Elizabeth. Though it has been years since Elizabeth’s death, James cannot move on.

Sarah also has a secret. She is haunted by nightmares about the Salem Witch Trials, and every night she is awakened by visions of hangings, being arrested, and dying in jail. Despite the obstacles of their secrets, James and Sarah fall in love. As James comes to terms with his feelings for Sarah, he must dodge accusations from a reporter desperate to prove that James is not who, or what, he seems to be. Soon James and Sarah piece their stories together and discover a mystery that may bind them in ways they never imagined. Will James make the ultimate sacrifice to protect Sarah and prevent a new hunt from bringing hysteria to Salem again?

Part historical fiction, part romance, part paranormal fantasy, Her Dear and Loving Husband is a story for anyone who believes that true love never dies.

I love, love, loved, this book! Her Dear and Loving Husband was amazing! I’m sure like many people I thought this was going to be a love story. Well, it was, but, it was also so much more! Allard did a wonderful job of telling a beautiful story, where you meet vampires, werewolves, witches, and the reincarnated. And I absolutely loved all of the discussion and history of the Salem Witch Trials

Sarah Alexander, the main character, is plagued with terrible nightmares of an earlier time. She dreams of being bound in chains and dying, and seeing friends hung. And most nights there is a strange faceless man with golden hair, a man who she feels in her heart that she loves dearly.

The first time Sarah meets James Wentworth, life is tuned upside down when he mistakes her for his dead wife, Elisabeth. He realizes his mistake, but there was a reason Sarah was brought to Salem. Maybe just maybe it has something to do with his dead wife, Elizabeth. Elizabeth died while imprisoned for being a witch.. James was changed into a vampire a few days before his wife’s death.

Sarah and James are thrown into the middle of a modern day witch hunt. They must work together along with their friends to stop a local reporter from exposing James' secret. Again I loved the gradual building of the relationship between James and Sarah. The romance was beautiful. The secondary characters played a huge part in supporting the story of James and Sarah. All the characters were well developed and I pictured the past and the present in my mind as Allard told the story.

Her Dear and Loving Husband is the first in the Loving Husband series and is an awesome book.  If you love paranormal romance books with witches, vampires, werewolves and have an interest in that period in our history then you will LOVE this book!

I received this book from the author for a fair and honest review.
