My Review of The Mesmerized by Rhiannon Frater

The Mesmerized
by Rhiannon Frater

Summary from Goodreads

It is silence, not screams of terror, which proclaims the end of the world…

Minji Nordim is vacationing in Las Vegas with her small family when she witnesses the beginning of a terrifying apocalypse. When humanity is transformed into mindless drones by a terrifying supernatural event only Minji appears to be immune.

Thousands die instantly, but the other affected people are drawn to the Nevada desert. Nothing stands in the way of the mesmerized. Not fire, not heights, not rubble. As the bodies pile in the streets and the relentless wave of the mesmerized plods into the deadly desert, Minji is trapped in a burning city attempting to rescue her affected family.
Can one woman save her family and the world?

I was privileged enough to be given a copy of Rhiannon Frater’s  The Mesmerized,  to read from Permuted Press.

SPOILER ALERT!! :)

I have never read a book that touched me so deeply as a mom as this book. It hit right at home. I know you are saying “What? This book isn’t some touchy feely book. It’s supposed to be a horror novel and it’s Rhiannon. There are always gory zombies or blood sucking vampires but not that kind of book.” Well Rhiannon hit it on the head. There’s not many or if any, horror books that a mom can TOTALLY identify with but this one I can. That protective momma bear comes out in us when anybody messes with our babies, no matter our race, nationality, or in this case alien entity that we may be.  Also, most moms can immediately feel compassion and want to help any mom that is going through anything with their child.

Minji, the main character, is a mom and a wife that loves her family more than anything and won’t stop until she helps them at all cost. She is a kick butt momma that not only wants to save her family but also the world. Working a long with Alec, Simone, and Jesse, they strive to figure out a way to return the alien entities and release the mesmerized. And as always you have to have at least one douchbag like Arthur, that the entire book you just want to punch him in the face. I was just hoping he would walk right of the side of the world. Grrr!

I don’t often finish a book and immediately want to re-read it but as I finished this book I was thinking “Man I really would like to go back now and read it slower to catch everything”. Most of the time when I get really involved in a book (like most of Rhiannon’s) I read really fast and I sometimes miss things. So soon hopefully, I’ll read it again.

So to sum this all up, I LOVED this book! It was really easy to give this one 5 stars without even thinking about it. And Thank You Rhiannon, for giving us a refreshing new book that as a mom I could identify with it in more than one way. Plus it was creepy and horrific at the same time. Does that sound warped? LOL! Well it was AWESOME!

Rhiannon Frater delivers a chilling adventure once again with this multi-part epic serial with a dynamic cast, old school vampires, bloody action, a smoldering forbidden love, and a terrifying villain set against the backdrop of a modern day vampire war.

Episode 2: Death in the Shadows
Death has claimed a Socoli, but the family curse will not allow him to stay dead. Vanora and Alisha must battle the creature that stole their brother's life while fearing the possible resurrection of Roman.

Armando Armando Armando!! You gorgeous man you! And on top of how beautiful you are we find out this episode that you are also the protector of Vanora...That just makes you MORE dreamy!! When I picture Armando he's tall, dark, mysterious, and handsomely beautiful!

In this episode, we watch as Armando starts to work his way into the Socoli family. He begins by spending time with Roman and as Roman becomes more relaxed with him he starts to let him spend time with his sisters also. But Roman never lets him alone with them in the beginning. Eventually, he starts to feel comfortable and you see him loosen up. Soon Armando is welcomed as a friend in their home. You know that Armando has a hidden agenda but we have to wait to see exactly what that is.
I am so hooked on these novellas. I hate the fact we are having to wait for each episode. It's like watching a TV show and having to wait each week for the next one.
5 Stars!!

MY REVIEW OF THE 1ST EPISODE: In Darkness We Must Abide

Rhiannon is killing me writing this book in episodes. I feel like my world was placed on a shelf and the amazing world of In Darkness We Must Abide has totally taken control. This world of gothic horror, this family and the mysteries they hold are making my head spin.

In this episode we find Roman, Alisha, and Vanora dealing with the horror that had escaped the coffin and the changes that have come with it. Rhiannon did an AWESOME job AGAIN of the story playing out in my head like I was watching this as a movie (which it needs to be!).  I love the way Rhiannon is writing Alisha and Vanora  as strong, courageous, and an amazing young women. Even Vanora as a child is brave and strong in this episode. And Roman as the protective older brother makes me smile when I read the things he says and does. I just love him. And in this episode I felt like we got to know Alisha a little better and I really like her.

I would love to tell you every detail of this story because it is so great. But I need to leave a little for you to read. Just remember once you start it's hard to wait for Rhiannon's next episode....it's killing me!!!!FASTER RHIANNON FASTER!!!! :)

Obviously 5 STARS!!! It's RHIANNON!

OH MY FREAKIN' GOSH!!  This book, novella WHATEVER it is was AWESOME!! And I am NOT so patiently waiting on the next episode....**clears throat** RHIANNON!!This is the first in a series of episodes by Rhiannon Frater.  I am and have been since I read the entire As The World Dies series a total Rhiannon fan. If there EVER has been an author that can totally draw me into a story and not let me go until the very last period it's Rhiannon. And BTW if you haven't experienced the Rhiannon love yet, you can start with this book because the story is heart gripping and totally intriguing!

Verona is just a little girl when her brother brings the coffins of their dead relatives to America from Romania. Some thing very evil was let out of one of the coffins. And as I sit here writing this, I can vividly see Verona, Roman, and Alisha because they are permanently ingrained into my mind. The events that unfold from the arrival of the coffins to the last words in the novel left me spellbound! And that's all I can say... You have got to read this first episode of the In Darkness We Must Abide series and see for yourself!

What was your most spine chilling moment?

Well that's a little difficult since my "spine was chillin" the entire time! But I would have to say when Verona opened her eyes to the creature standing above her.....I wanted to throw my Kindle and hide under the covers. That was really creepy!!!!!
