Synopsis via Goodreads:
After four years as a prisoner in her parents' attic, hidden away from the Catchers, Eden never dreamt the very people she was hiding from would be the beginning of such impossible things. She's found freedom on the island like she never imagined.
Eden is a sorcerer, with the power of the world in her fingertips. She is determined to never be helpless like she once was, and spends every minute of her spare time training to fight back. As she discovers more of her own power, she and her friends continue to uncover the secrets of the Council. Deadly secrets, hinting at something far larger than the island and the Catchers. Before they can find out exactly what the Council is hiding, Eden's magic begins to spiral out of control, and she loses it for just a second. Just half of a second, and it's enough to change everything.
Suddenly, lives are put at stake, and Eden and her friends must do something no one else has ever dared. They have to escape the island, or they have to die trying.
If you could travel in a time machine where would you go back to the past or into the future?
Past. The future looks pretty grim, if you ask me! The past might have plagues and no elevators, but I think I'd rather that than overpopulation and... and, well, a lot of other bad things. Specifically, I'd like to go to Scotland in 1800-1900 era, or maybe New York in 1910ish.
If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 things would you want with you?
A fully stocked yacht, fuel, and my dog.
What is one book everyone should read?
Other than mine? Lol!! I always recommend whatever I've read most recently and loved, which is (at the moment), Queen of the Tearling. And also, Throne of Glass. It's a must-read. Now. Go, read it now.
If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
I always agonize over this question! There are literally so many options. I'm going to go with unlimited shapeshifting. I can shift into any animal there is. Ha! Iove it.
What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast?
French toast. With chocolate. Or berry sauce. Or maple. Or pretty much anything.
What book are reading now?
The Burning Sky. And I'm loving it!!
What’s your favorite season/weather?
Fall. Not only is it my birthday, but it's warm enough to go outside without a heavy coat, and I live in Canada, so it's warm enough to wear cold-weather clothes (which I love). And the leaves are so beautiful!
What was your favorite children's book?
I used to adore The Sight by Davies, which is from the POV of a wolf. There was also Fire Bringer by him, and the Warrior Cat series by Hunter. I adored all of those. Also, the Childrens Illustrated Classics, which were classic books re-written for kids. I always, always loved books.
Any pet peeves?
People who chew with their mouths open, and people who make out or do any kind of PDA other than hand holding or hugging. Dear lord, it makes me want to become an axe murderer.
Beach or Pool?
Beach. I love the sea. But pools have a place in my heart, since when you use them, you don't get covered in sand,
M&M’s Or Skittles?
Peanut M&M's, not normal ones.
Favorite Icecream?
Either peanut butter chocolate from Baskin & Robins or Cookies and Mint, which is a PC brand ice cream here in Canada.
If you could jump in to a book, and live in that world, which would it be?
Um, Harry Potter, hello?! But I demand to not be a muggle. There's no point to it if I'd be a muggle.
Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
Yes! I recently completed the Legend of Eden series, and one that won't be out for a long time. It's very Feudal Japan meets Monks meets Throne of Midnight meets Game of Thrones and X-Men.
Kate Cowan is an artist, an animation student, a black belt in karate and now, an author. She didn't discover writing until mid-high school, when she began writing an (unintentionally) hilarious novel involving a teenage girl and a magic necklace. Her current novel series, The Legend of Eden, began as a story ofArthurian magic, but quickly transformed into something much different.
Kate currently lives in Ontario, Canada, in a zoo of a house. When she isn't writing, she's drawing, cooking, or browsing the Internet for new music.
